About
Before the water turned
A patient enters healthcare carrying a whole life that may not be visible in the chart. This is the story behind Waded In Together — and why the mission outgrew one person's experience.
Before the heart disease became the dominant current, there was faith, family, early responsibility, and personal failure. There was the mistaken belief that strength meant handling everything alone. The medical story that followed — heart attack, bypass, stroke, implanted devices, heart failure, transplant, and cancer — could easily become a collection of procedures. It never was.
Each chapter of that journey taught the same lesson in a different voice: survival and meaning are often connected to people who enter the water rather than remaining safely on the bank. A physician who taught rather than merely directed. Caregivers who drove, fed, lifted, and stayed. A body that learned to expect danger long after the danger passed.
The River Does Not Ask became the narrative foundation. But the website is not an author site. The book matters deeply, and the mission is larger than book sales. Waded In Together exists so that what one patient learned can become useful to patients, caregivers, families, and professionals who never heard the story — and never need to.

"The chart records what happened to the body. It cannot record who was living in it. We have to bring that person into the room."
